Rugged and wild, Papua New Guinea’s Eastern Highland’s produce an array of incredibly unique coffees. This region is full of potential and vastly different to the more familiar Western Highland’s. Harvest in the East typically starts around May and ends around September, often stretching through to October. This is due to its lofty altitude that towers above 2200masl in many growing areas. Production in the Eastern Highlands is characterized by rugged terrain and smallholder growers. Smallholder growers usually operate somewhat cooperatively within their tribe or village, assisting each other with picking, shared drying and pulping facilities and storage. This coffee is sourced from a network of small grower groups. These coffees are delivered to a centralized warehouse and mill.
