If ever you journey to the Southwestern sector of Tolima, if you brave the rocky Eastern slopes of the Central Cordillera, if you wade through marshy soil, volcanic sediment, and tip toe past pumas, wolves, and bears, you maybe, just maybe, will come across the majestic Meridiano Lagoon. It’s out of the way and only visible by air.
El Meridiano is named after the beautiful Meridiano Lagoon. It is grown by 58 producers who are located in this secluded part of Tolima. They make up the ASOCEAS (Asociacion de Productores de Café Especial del Alto Saldana). Their average farm size is only 4.5 hectares, and collectively they produce approximately 1,000 bags of coffee per year. This is a great example of smallholders working together to produce amazing coffee.
